First Cliff Walk, Grindelwald, Switzerland
Webnet Secures Breath-taking Views of Swiss Alps.
This spectacular ‘floating’ bridge in Grindelwald, Switzerland provides visitors to the mountains with stunning panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains in the Swiss Alps. At 260-metres long, the suspended walkway is at the summit lift station of Grindelwald First, and protrudes out of the side of the mountain at 2,000 metres above sea level.
To ensure the safety of visitors to the bridge and platform, 398 square metres of Jakob’s Webnet stainless steel wire mesh system was specified. Without obscuring or spoiling the breath-taking views, the Webnet system is providing a secure and robust handrail and balustrade infill along the entire summit path, the helical ascent to the viewing platform and along both sides of the platform itself.
Suitable for the huge fluctuations in temperature and variations in weather pattern that are experienced on the mountain, the Jakob system is not only extremely durable, but also requires minimal maintenance. And given the location’s limited accessibility, during construction of the structure, the material’s light weight meant that it was easy to transport to site and handle, with installation and fast and straightforward process, even with the challenges the team faced due to the overhanging rocks sections.
